Daniel Murphy
Colorguard Director
Daniel Murphy is from the small town of Trenton, Georgia, about 30 minutes south of Chattanooga, Tennessee. Daniel graduated from Dade County High School in 2020, where he served in many leadership roles of many organizations, but was most notably Captain of the Wolverine Colorguard. Colorguard has always been an art form that has really spoken deeply to Daniel and his primary goal is to always: A) Create a safe space for all students to learn, grown, and have fun, and B) Give the best experience possible to the performers of the program.
Daniel decided during his senior year, that instead of spinning with the Dade County HS Winterguard, he wanted to be pushed harder and grow more. These desires were what pushed Daniel to begin performing with Eunoia Independent Winterguard based out of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He performed for Eunoia beginning in the 2020 winter competition season which was ultimately canceled due to the Covid-19 Pandemic. Success was still seen in a short amount of time however, because Eunoia was promoted from IRA class to IA class at the premier show, and for the remainder of our competitions we were always in the top two of IA class. Eunoia made a return to the competition floor in the 2022 winter competition season where Daniel served as the head captain and a choreographer of the program. In 2022, Eunoia attended the WGI Knoxville Regional and WGI Orlando Power Regional where the program was a finalist at both of these regionals.
In October 2020, Daniel began working at Ringgold High School as a tech primarily overseeing the Junior Varsity winterguard program. After his first year at Ringgold, he was asked to take over his alma mater as the Director of Colorguard and began working at Dade County High School alongside working at Ringgold High School. Shortly after beginning the 2022 Winter season with Dade County HS, Daniel was asked to take over the program as Director of Colorguard at RInggold High School. He accepted and took on both schools. As of the end of the 2023-2024 school year, all of Daniel’s programs have consistently received Superior ratings. In October 2023, Daniel was interviewed and hired on to be the Director of Colorguard at Flowery Branch High School. Beginning with the 2024 winterguard program and only meeting once a week, the Flowery Branch HS Winterguard still saw success in a short amount of time being promoted from Novice class to Scholastic Regional A class at their second competition in their first season with Daniel.
Daniel decided he had found his new home and it was time for a big change. He relocated to Oakwood from Chattanooga in May 2024. When Daniel isn’t spinning, you can often find him doing one of two things: Making coffee or hanging out with his cats Broccoli, Cheddar, and Noodle.
